A personal note
No one ever tells you that having a fulfilling life is easy. In fact, we are taught from young ages all about stereotypes: I will be happy when I have a family, a house with a picket fence, a car, a highly paid job or a successful business. I will be happy when I get that promotion, when I move to another country or when I find my ideal partner. We are conditioned to believe that happiness is a milestone, a point that you need to reach and THEN you can be happy.
But when you are dreaming of a future different than the one you are living, I believe it is our job to pursue it and do everything you can to create it. And if you are mindful, ambitious, and visionary, with the right intentions, ANYTHING is possible.
I used to be just like that. Coming from modest beginnings, born in a small town in Romania, I always knew there was more to life. More that I wanted to explore. More that I wanted to learn. So I envisioned my life since I was a little girl. I wanted to have a great family, a great job, and to achieve some great accomplishments. And I did. I focused on my career, worked hard and went through countless instances of scrutiny: you are too young to manage such a large organisation; you are a woman, are you really that competent or smart; do you really deserve your position or did you get it in any other way; you are coming from a less developed communist country, can you really be that capable?
And after years and years of growth, some more painful than others, I was living the life that most just dream of. But even with a high level position at a Fortune 100 company, with a beautiful family and living in an amazing country, I still felt constrained. Like I didn’t have a purpose. I was unhappy, had no balance, and I didn’t know how to have a connection with myself, let alone how it could help me achieve my own fulfillment.
So there I was.
Super frustrated.
Super challenged.
And super unfulfilled.
